What to expect at your first spa visit in Nashville: a complete guide for first-time guests
If you have never been to a spa before or it has been a long time, not knowing what to expect can make the whole thing feel more stressful than relaxing. This guide takes care of that.
First-time spa visits should feel exciting. And they do, once you know what to expect. The nervousness that comes with not knowing the etiquette, not knowing what to wear, not knowing whether to talk or stay quiet or tip or how early to arrive, all of that dissolves the moment someone walks you through it.
So consider this your complete guide to your first spa visit in Nashville. By the time you finish reading this you will feel confident, prepared, and genuinely excited to walk through the door.
Before your appointment.
Book the right service for where you are starting.
If you are not sure what to book for your first visit, a custom facial or a HydraFacial is almost always the right starting point. Both are gentle, results-driven, and give your esthetician a chance to really assess your skin and make recommendations going forward. If relaxation is your primary goal, a Swedish massage is a great first choice. When in doubt, call us and we will help you choose.
Fill out your intake form honestly.
When you book at Spa Haus Nashville you will receive an intake form asking about your skin concerns, health history, and any medications or products you are currently using. This is not just paperwork. It directly shapes the treatment your esthetician delivers. Fill it out as thoroughly and honestly as you can, the more we know, the better your results.
Arrive ten to fifteen minutes early.
Arriving a few minutes early gives you time to check in, change into your robe (if you have more than one service. If you are coming in for a single service, no robe will be offered but you can always ask for one), and settle in before your treatment begins. It also means your full appointment time goes toward your treatment rather than getting shortened because of a rushed arrival. Late arrivals may result in a shortened service out of respect for the next client.
Skip the heavy makeup and fragrance.
For facial treatments, arriving with a clean or lightly made up face means your esthetician can get straight to work. For any treatment, heavy fragrances can interfere with the aromatherapy experience and may bother other guests. A little goes a long way.
When you arrive at Spa Haus Nashville.
When you walk through our doors you will be greeted warmly and checked in by our front desk team. You will be shown to our waiting area where you can decompress before your treatment begins. You will be offered a robe if you have multiple services.
Your esthetician or massage therapist will come to greet you personally and bring you back to your treatment room. Before your service begins they will take a few minutes to ask about your goals, any concerns, and how you are feeling that day. This is your chance to mention anything that is on your mind such as pressure preferences, areas you want focused on, anything that does not feel right, anything you are curious about.
We want you to feel completely comfortable before we begin. Please speak up if anything does not feel right during your treatment as well. A great spa experience is a collaborative one.
Common first-time questions answered.
Should I talk during my treatment?
Completely up to you. Some clients love to chat and some prefer complete quiet. There is no right answer. Your provider will follow your lead. If you want silence, close your eyes and breathe. If you have questions or want to talk, we are happy to be there for that too.
What do I wear during a facial?
We will provide a robe and a facial wrap for your hair. You will be covered with a sheet or blanket throughout your treatment. You only need to undress to whatever level of comfort makes sense for the service you booked, for a facial that typically means from the shoulders up.
Will extractions hurt?
Manual extractions during a facial can feel uncomfortable depending on your skin and the level of congestion present. Your esthetician will always ask permission before performing extractions and will work as gently as possible. If at any point it feels like too much, say so. We can always adjust.
Do I need to tip?
Tipping is not required but it is always appreciated. The standard in the spa industry is around twenty percent of the service total. If you had an exceptional experience and want to show it, your provider will genuinely appreciate it.
What if I fall asleep?
Falling asleep during a treatment is one of the highest compliments you can give your esthetician. It means you feel completely safe and relaxed. It happens often and it is completely welcome.
After your treatment.
At the end of your service your provider will give you a few minutes to come back to the room gently before bringing you out to the reception area. They will share any observations about your treatment, recommend home care products if appropriate, and suggest next steps for maintaining your results.
After a facial we recommend avoiding direct sun exposure, heavy exercise, and applying makeup for a few hours so your skin can fully absorb the benefits of the treatment. Drink plenty of water and let your skin breathe.
And then rebook before you leave. The results from professional skin care are cumulative - the more consistently you come in the better your skin looks and feels over time. Most of our clients rebook monthly and the difference in their skin after six months of consistent care is remarkable.
