Chemical Peel FAQs

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel uses exfoliating solutions such as Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) or Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and other acids to remove damaged or aged layers of skin to reveal the softer, more youthful skin underneath. As a result, chemical peels promote the growth of a new healthy top skin layer and can improve skin problems like hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, uneven texture and skin impurities.

How is a Chemical Peel performed?

Our licensed professional will cleanse your skin and use a mild toner to remove any oils before applying layers of a peel solution to your skin. As each layer of the solution soaks into the skin, your Esthetician will fan you and keep you comfortable throughout the process. Some people experience a light burning sensation, but that goes away quickly.

After the peel is applied and depending on the peel used, the solution is left on your skin and a moisturizer and SPF are applied.

Pro tip: Enhance your peel with an enzyme, dermaplaning or a cooling peel off mask.

How long is the recovery after a chemical peel and what type of care is necessary?

Recovery times will vary based on the type and strength of the peel. Immediately after the peel, your skin will glow and possibly feel tight. For majority of our peels, any visible peeling will be light and easily controlled with moisturizer. Peeling usually lasts 3-5 days, depending on the actual peel treatment. Use of a proper & gentle cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen is important, as it will enhance the healing process and results.

Sun exposure should be avoided while skin is peeling; exposure of treated skin to a lot of heat should also be avoided. Peeling skin should be allowed to slough off naturally. Do not pick or peel any flaking skin as it may lead to scarring.

Why did I not have any visible peeling after my peel?

The success of the peel should not be judged by the amount of peeling, but by the end results that the peel will produce. The amount of peeling may vary depending on individual skin condition at the time of the peel or the depth of the peel. Regardless of the degree of peeling, the skin is still sloughing off at an accelerated rate, resulting in the improvement of skin tone and texture and an improvement of fine lines and uneven pigmentation.

We have many different peeling options from our 'No Peel' Peel to our Retinol peel. Consult with your Licensed Esthetician at the time of your appointment to see what peel is best for you!

For best and long lasting results, we recommend every 4-6 weeks, but some clients come quarterly.

What is the necessary aftercare?

We sell 7 day PCA Skin after-care kits or you can purchase full size products of a gentle cleanser, calming balm, moisturizer and SPF. Your licensed Esthetician will inform you how to use the products before leaving.

The day of the peel, after you receive your peel, do not do any strenuous activities or be in direct heat/sweating (sauna, bonfire, hot yoga, etc).
